Wednesday's Lessons in Word

Good Afternoon.

First part of class was a review of what was accomplished thus far, and a quiz.  Did not do to bad, but was glad for the review.

Today's Class Topics:
  • Review of SUMO Paint online.  How to get your photos from one extreme to the other when they are either under/overdeveloped to looking normal.
  • Discussion on how to put together a flyer.  Also how to put a background onto a flyer to really make it shine.
  • Started on a MLA (Modern Language Association of America) project.
New Things I Learned Today:
  • Learned how to change bullets to different images and also the color of the bullets.
  • Learned that MLA is used all over America and it also depends on what area of study a person is writing about.
  • Learned that one gallon of black ink cost $10,000.
  • Learned that when a picture is inserted into a document it is not compressed.  By not being compressed, the document will take awhile for the receiving party to download when it is emailed.
This is Murray. Before editing on SUMO.
New Keyboard Shortcuts:

These shortcuts will come in handy when working on documents and academic papers.
  • F7 = Spelling Check.
  • Shift and F7 = Thesaurus.
New MS Word Ribbon Item:
Learned about inserting a footnote into a document and where to locate it.  A footnote is a useful tool for when someone wants to explain more on something, but do not want to take up all the room in the body of the document.  The footnote is located on the "References" ribbon.

MS Word Lessons of Today

Hello!

Today was a full day in our MS Word class.  Let me tell you all about it.  It was awesome!

Today's Class Topics:
  • SUMO Paint from the Internet.  How to fix photos and or create your own graphics. Very cool.
  • Zip Files-how to create and open a zip file.
  • Inserting an outline from Word into a PowerPoint Presentation.
New Keyboard Shortcuts:
  • Control "2"-Double Space.
  • Control "A"-Select all-the whole document/text.
  • Window "U"-Windows Utilities Manager.
New Things That I Learned Today:
  • SUMO Paint from the "Cloud"-which  "Cloud" is another word for Internet.  Learned how to fix photos that were either underdeveloped or overdeveloped.
  • Learned how to create a Zip File, which is so much easier than sending a few hundred photos separately, made a zip file and load those photos into that file and zip it up and send it on its way. Making a Zip File can clean up memory by compressing the files in the folder.
  • Learned how to create a new background for PowerPoint from SUMO Paint and making a new PowerPoint Presentation with that background.  Will be a photo at the end of post.
  • Brightness and contrast only darkens and lightens a photo.  If you need to remove "red eye" from a photo, you need to have a software to help you do that.
New MS Word Ribbon Item:

Learned about "Styles" on the Home Ribbon.  Styles are used to enhance a document with different headings and can be inserted into a PowerPoint Presentation.  I did try it the first time, but if you do not have your formatting just right, it will not work the way you want it.  So, with my trial and error and, of course, help from the instructor, was able to accomplish this simple task.

As stated earlier, graphic created on SUMO.

What I learned today in MS Word

Hello Everyone!!

Today’s Class Topics:

·         Discussed the Syllabus and what is expected of us in class.

·         Discussed how we are to “blog” our progress through class.

·         Keyboard shortcuts were also discussed.

New Keyboard Shortcuts:

Here are a few listed shortcuts:

·         Control L – Left Justify

·         Control E – Center Justify

·         Control R – Right Justify

·         Control B – Bold

·         Control Z – Undo

·         Control Y – Redo

·         Control Q – Quit

Here are two that do not pertain to MS Word, but for the computer and they are quite useful:

·      Window (E) takes you to your computer (used to be My Computer).  The Window Key is located right between the Ctrl and Alt keys on a desktop keyboard, but may be located in a different area on a laptop.  On my Laptop it is on the left side next to the Alt key.

·     Window (D) will go to the Desktop from any open window.   Go ahead and try it and hit it again to bring back up the window you were working in.

New Things I Learned Today:

·     Learned how to turn off the 10 point spacing between paragraphs in a word document.  This is located on the “Home” ribbon under “Paragraph”.

·     Learned that double spaced was originally for drafts to hand into instructors and/or newspaper editors.  This is so that instructors and newspaper editors can have room to make comments for any errors found in the document.

·      Learned how to add a new folder onto our Flash Drive and to organize the Flash Drive to keep it clean and neat.

·       Learned that 72 points equals one inch in Font Size and of course 36 points is a half an inch.

New MS Word Ribbon Item:
As mentioned earlier; the class learned how to turn off the 10 point spacing between paragraphs in Word.  This is done from the Home Ribbon under Paragraph.  Or it can be accomplished by selecting the text (Control “A”) or highlighting the text and right click on the mouse and clicking on “paragraph” and locating spacing on the window and taking it from 10 points to “0” point spacing.

MS Word Introduction

Hi Everyone!
My name is Michele Keller and I am attending South Florida Community College.
I am enrolled in the Administrative Assistant Program, which I began in January of this year; the expected date of completion is sometime in November 2012.

I am taking MS Word because:
  • Required to graduate.
  • Learn more than the basics of word.
  • Learn keyboard shortcuts.
  • Learn more about styles for a document.
I know this will be an exciting class and I am looking forward to it.
